Important Update: New TGA Standards for Nicotine Vapes from 1 July 2025
Starting 1 July 2025, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) will enforce enhanced safety, quality, and design standards for all therapeutic nicotine vaping products available through pharmacies. Here’s what you need to know to stay informed and compliant.
What’s Changing?
Ingredient Restrictions
Only nicotine (max 50 mg/mL), propylene glycol, glycerol, water, and tobacco, menthol, or mint flavours are permitted. Other flavours are no longer allowed.
Packaging & Labelling
Products must feature plain packaging, limited naming, and mandatory information leaflets. Clear usage instructions are now essential.
Device & Component Standards
Devices must comply with stringent medical-grade manufacturing, risk management, battery safety, and toxicology requirements.
Compliance Timeline
- Until 1 July 2025, products meeting either old or new standards remain sellable.
- After that date, only fully compliant products can be supplied.
What This Means for You
- Browse our catalogue of compliant Nicotine Vaping Products to help you on your quit journey.
- If your prescribed product is no longer available, request a new prescription for a compliant alternative.
- Consider other nicotine replacement therapies like patches, gums, or lozenges—many are subsidised under the PBS.
